I first started designing websites in 2000 with my first website being designed using a demo copy of 'Net Objects Fusion'. With this programme I was able to build a simple website for the Architectural Company that I then worked for. Moving on from NetObjects I familiarised myself with packages such as Web Studio and Adobe Dreamweaver re-designing the company website and building a personal site of my own.
It wasn't until I stumbled across the W3C website and it's web standards that I realised hand coding websites was the way to go, as using the packages mentioned would create bad code which can disrupt the viewing of a website.
Realising this I decided to learn HTML which was made very easy through tutorials by HTML.net and w3schools. It was not long until I learnt HTML that I moved over to CSS realizing the beautiful effects and time that can be saved with single style sheets.
After spending a lot of time mastering CSS I learnt about JavaScript through a friend and once learning the simplest techniques I was able to add animation to websites without having to load Flash.
After learning JavaScript (the basics that is!) I heard of a simplified library called jQuery which is even easier to use and has a bundle of very nice effects which are very easy to customize.
Since learning about JavaScript/jQuery I wondered where to go from here and after talking to a developer friend PHP was the next wall to climb! Still in the shallow end of the pool with PHP I am learning how powerful an ally this programming language can be. As my design/developer journey continues I welcome all knowledge and hope to carry on creating accessible, eye catching designs.
